The resort is located just up the road from the actual hot springs, but they have a direct shuttle that will take you any time of day. The hot springs are shared with a couple of other resorts in the area so if you are looking for a kid-free day, I would recommend seeking out the Shangrila section. This is a private area solely dedicated to the Tabacon resort with its own bar & restaurant with private bungalows for you to lounge in while you are out of the springs. This also includes a private section for the hot springs.
The Spa
The resort also boasts a world-class spa that offers a variety of treatments, including couples massages and hot stone treatments. The spa is located in the middle of the hot springs. I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced anything with such luxury before, but my husband booked this trip for my birthday so he definitely indulged a bit. With the romantic ambiance all around you, you’ll feel more in love than ever before. We definitely indulged in a couples spa package
The accommodations are luxurious and although you are in the middle of the hot springs, it is completely private. The hubs booked a signature treatment (Tabacon) that included an 80-minute massage and volcanic clay detox. If you are not into massages, the spa has a host of other options for you to choose from!
Plus, with all the romantic vibes in the air, you’ll be feeling more lovey-dovey than ever before.
Costa Rica Dining
Dining options are plentiful, with several restaurants and bars offering a unique culinary experience. The signature restaurant, Ave del Paraíso, offers international cuisine with a Costa Rican twist, and the views are breathtaking. Most of the restaurants within the resort or open for walk-ins with the exception of Tucanes. This is the resort’s main restaurant and does require a reservation for any meal, breakfast/lunch/& dinner.
Breakfast is served in the main restaurant, Tucanes, and they have a vast variety of Costa Rican cuisine and coffee. The coffee was by far my husband’s favorite thing on the menu while the sugar waffles were mine! Fresh fruit really rounded out the experience.
You can also find a tasting experience within the main restaurant. All around the food was amazing, but as I am not the adventurous one in our marriage my husband is the only one that partook. He absolutely loved the 5 courses, regionally themed cuisine. Highly recommend!
Activities
Tabacon Thermal Resort and Spa offers a range of activities, including hiking, zip-lining, and birdwatching. You might even spot some of the local wildlife, such as sloths or toucans. Of course, no trip to Tabacon Thermal Resort and Spa is complete without exploring the surrounding area, including the Arenal Volcano National Park and the hot springs.
I would recommend the hiking experience. We decided to book for an early morning hike and were able to luck out into a private guided hike. Venturing into the Arenal Volcano and National Park, you’ll experience the lush forest, numerous sky bridges/ overlooks, and breathtaking waterfalls. I would only recommend this hike for active people, the terrain can be quite tough and slippery so having sure-footing is a must!
