Hey, guys! Are you planning a trip to Costa Rica and wondering what to do in Tamarindo? Look no further! I’ve put together a list of the top things to do in this beautiful beach town that will make your trip unforgettable.
Tamarindo Beaches
First things first – you can’t visit Tamarindo without hitting the waves. The surf breaks here are legendary, and you’ll find surfers of all levels out on the water. If you’re a beginner, no worries – there are plenty of surf schools and instructors who can help you get started. If surfing isn’t your thing, try stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking – they’re just as fun and will give you a unique perspective of the town from the water.
Tamarindo has some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, and each one has its own unique vibe. Playa Tamarindo is the main beach and the hub of activity, while Playa Langosta is a bit more secluded and peaceful. Playa Grande is a surfer’s paradise, and Playa Avellanas is known for its picture-perfect sunsets. Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen!
Costa Rica Nature/Wildlife
Next up, nature and wildlife. Tamarindo is home to a wildlife refuge where you can spot monkeys, iguanas, and all sorts of tropical birds. You can also take day trips to nearby national parks like Marino Las Baulas or Rincon de la Vieja. During these tours, you’ll see even more exotic wildlife and breathtaking landscape views.
Exploring
For those who want a bit more adventure, Tamarindo and Costa Rica in general has plenty of hiking and outdoor activities.
- Hike to the top of Tamarindo’s Mirador. This offers an amazing panoramic view of the town
- Try a canopy tour or ziplining adventure.
- You can also explore the town on horseback.
- Or take an ATV/UTV tour through the jungle.
If you’re looking for a thrilling adventure in Tamarindo, then a UTV tour is a must-do activity. We did a UTV Sunset and Night Ride tour through Action Tours. This group was run by an ex-pat with local tour guides. My husband had an absolute blast driving one of these things. If you are seeking an adrenaline high, this is probably one of the safer alternatives.
These all-terrain vehicles will take you through the jungle and give you a chance to explore the town’s beautiful natural surroundings in a unique and exciting way. You’ll navigate through streams and over hills while enjoying the fresh air and stunning views. It’s a great way to get off the beaten path and experience the true beauty of Tamarindo’s landscape. The wildlife was insane on this trip, howler monkeys have definitely earned their name! And with experienced guides to lead the way, you can rest assured that your tour will be both safe and exhilarating. Don’t forget to bring your camera – you’ll want to capture these memories forever!
Tamarindo/Costa Rica Cuisine
After all that activity, you’ll want to refuel with some delicious food. Tamarindo has some amazing restaurants and cafes serving up traditional Costa Rican cuisine and international fare. Be sure to check out the local artisan markets for souvenirs and unique gifts, too.
Nightlife
As the sun sets, Tamarindo comes alive with its bustling nightlife. There are plenty of bars and clubs to choose from, as well as live music and entertainment venues. If you’re feeling fancy, book a sunset sailing or catamaran tour for a truly memorable experience. If you are truly interested in a catamaran tour, then I would recommend The Marlin Del Rey. Their team was efficient in getting tourists from the beach to the actual ship and very welcoming. The crew provided a very authentic Costa Rican lunch during and an open bar, so what could be better?
These tours take you out on the water for a leisurely sail along the coast. You’ll have the opportunity to swim and snorkel in crystal-clear waters. Being able to see dolphins within 15 ft of the catamarans was amazing! And as the sun begins to set, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking display of colors as the sky changes from blue to pink to orange. It’s a truly magical experience that you won’t want to miss.
One thing to note, be sure to pack sunscreen. With the breathtaking views and different experiences, you are left out to the sun for long periods of time. While we had an AMAZING time during this excursion we also got a little burnt. But definitely sit back, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Tamarindo from the comfort of a luxurious catamaran.
Tamarindo Culture
Last but not least, immerse yourself in Tamarindo’s rich culture and history. Learn about the town’s origins and cultural significance at local art galleries and museums. And you don’t want to miss out on traditional celebrations and events like the Sabanero festival.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go book my own trip to Tamarindo ASAP! Seriously, though, this beach town truly has it all – from surfing to sunsets, wildlife to nightlife, and everything in between. So don’t wait any longer – pack your bags, grab your sunscreen, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Who knows, maybe we’ll even run into each other on a catamaran tour or ATV adventure. Just remember to say hi and buy me a drink! Cheers to Tamarindo, the ultimate Costa Rican destination.
